Perfect for the Beginner! Great book!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Very easy to read. I tried several other beginner books and they failed at what this book was meant to do and that's make Visual Basic programming easy to understand. No fluff to obscure the principles. Great Job! Clayton you think you might write one in the same style as this on more advanced topics of Visual Basic? It would be a great seller.

A Fine Complementary Book

I picked up The Complete Idiot's Guide to VB 6 at the library after having gone through part of Learn to Program with Visual Basic 6 by John Smiley, and, when I sat down to read it (not at my computer, but just for the fun of it), I kept saying, "Oh, THAT'S what that meant!" I'm brand new to any kind of computer programming and, while I gained some knowledge from Dr. Smiley's book, it took this book to really make some of the concepts clear to me. Had I started with this one, I'm not sure that I would feel the same way, but I would strongly recommend this book as an adjunct to other books on this same subject. We don't just buy (or borrow) one book on a subject this big, do we?

Great Introduction!

Don't pan this book because it only covers the basics. For the intended audience, it IS a 5-star book. While I did require a more advanced text (my favorite is Special Edition Using Visual Basic 6) nearly right away, this book got me going VERY quickly. If you're thinking of sticking your toe into the water of VB6, start here - then get yourself a more advanced book. By the way, I still make reference to it when I need a quick look-up on the basics (I don't program every day, so I get rusty).

About the Author
Mike Seeds was a professor of physics and astronomy at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from 1970 until his retirement in 2001. In 1989 he received F&M College's Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. Mike's love for the history of astronomy led him to create upper-level courses on archaeoastronomy and on the Copernican Revolution ("Changing Concepts of the Universe"). His research interests focused on variable stars and automation of astronomical telescopes. Mike is coauthor with Dana Backman of Horizons: Exploring the Universe, 12th edition (2012); Universe: Solar Systems, Stars, and Galaxies, 7th edition (2012); Stars and Galaxies, 8th edition (2013); The Solar System, 8th edition (2013); and ASTRO, 2nd edition (2013), all published by Cengage. He was senior consultant for creation of the 20-episode telecourse accompanying his book Horizons: Exploring the Universe.

Dana Backman taught in the physics and astronomy department at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from 1991 until 2003. He invented and taught a course titled "Life in the Universe" in F&M's interdisciplinary Foundations program. Dana now teaches introductory Solar System astronomy at Santa Clara University and introductory astronomy, astrobiology, and cosmology courses in Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program. His research interests focus on infrared observations of planet formation, models of debris disks around nearby stars, and evolution of the solar system's Kuiper belt. Dana is employed by the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, as director of education and public outreach for SOFIA (the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) at NASA's Ames Research Center. Dana is coauthor with Mike Seeds of Horizons: Exploring the Universe, 14th edition (2018); Universe: Solar Systems, Stars, and Galaxies, 7th edition (2012); Stars and Galaxies, 8th edition (2013); The Solar System, 8th edition (2013); and ASTRO, 2nd edition (2013), all published by Cengage.

Awesome Kindle Textbook!

This is my first time getting a kindle textbook and I don't foresee myself buying huge, heavy textbooks ever again unless the published does not offer then as an e-book. I access the textbook on my I-Pad through the kindle app and it is absolutely the best! The pictures are crisp, clear and in COLOR. Key terms are highlighted and when I click on them, it leads me directly to the definition in the glossary. The one downside is that even though its a kindle book, it runs about $105 which is pricey but for anybody that is on the fence about purchasing this for Kindle, it's still cheaper than regular price and it comes in the convenience of a Kindle or I-Pad. No more lugging around giant textbooks!

Awesome Read! The E-text functionality works great! Many convenient study tools, like being able to create different "decks" of flashcards with the highlighting function....way faster than typing up hundreds of flashcards into quizlet for example.

I selected this book because it says "LIKE NEW", but it is not. Full of highlighter marks on many of the pages.It does not meet the "LIKE NEW" description the seller claims.
