Its a good book for understanding choice experiments. However, all the examples are related to transportation and marketing. Examples with environmental and private goods may help to explain some of the concepts.

The book is only good for statisticans

This book is definitely not for beginners as the theories are not properly presented. I don't think anyone but experienced statisticians can understand. For example, the book covers extensively on utilities. While it's an important topic, the topic is being repeated over and over again. I'd prefer the author explain how to do a proper choice modelling with the multinomial logit model. Very hard to read, not recmmended.

Great Fun Children's Book on Origami!

This book was purchased for a 12 year old very precocious young lady who was resident with her mother at a local shelter for women escaping from domestic and/ or sexual violence. A 2-hour visit from an arts teacher who worked with our children ages 5-12 evoked interest in origami in this young lady. I searched Amazon (always) to see if I could find an age- appropriate book on origami for her and, never letting me down, I found this fabulous book. It is bright and colorful and had all sorts of origami projects on which to work, moving from more simple projects to more difficult ones. I volunteer at the shelter and as I was leaving the evening I had given her the book, I saw her sitting on a bench outside happily ensconced in a project already! How could I give this fantastic book anything less than five stars? This book is a winner!

Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a "baby farmer," who raised her with unusual tenderness, as if Sue were her own. Implausible plots

I read the book knowing that it is a Booker award nominee, but without knowing the plot, without knowing that there is a BBC miniseries, without knowing that this is a crime novel with a lesbian love in a time of Dickens.

Waters did try hard to put the elements of lesbian love into the time, and tried hard to make everything plausible. To be fair this is a enjoyable read as the theme and the story is very unusual. However my opinion is toward negative.

First, the plot. It is so contrived with so many twists that you feel that there is no surprise if in the next chapter everything is upside down again, and once more in the next next chapter you are told that everything is a dream.

Second, Mrs Sucksby. I just cannot understand Mrs Sucksby: How can she (1) exchange her own daughter with somebody and wait for 17 years just for a insecure future money, and (2) how can she not love, not a bit, the exchanged fake daughter after 17 years of living together so as to send her into a mad house without rue? These two facts are simply unreasonable but so crucial in the book; and the plot of Gentleman and Sucksby, and hence the whole setting of the book is based on this. It just cannot persuade me.

Finally, most of the characters are flat. The tone and language of Sue is too mature and erudite for an illiterate. How can she know Helen and Troy? How can she know so many rare words? The dialogue and reaction between the characters of Lant street in the scene that Sue is back with a knife is ridiculous enough -- that is too calm and rational, too many words, to be true.

Overall this is a enjoyable but light read. A good novel makes readers feel for the characters and care for their fates. A great novel makes readers ponder. However for this one, It seems there are too many plots and not so many deep things to ponder if the plots are dropped out.

Loved it!

The definition of fingersmith: (slang), for a midwife or pickpocket. This holds true for both as you'll soon see.

I swear Sarah Waters must have a time machine at her disposal to be able to write such depth and intricate details of London in the 1800's. No stone goes unturned in this one. From the slums, to the city life, to a boarded-up mansion and lunatic asylum--it all comes bursting off the pages in this master piece of a novel.

As for the plot, it revolves around a bunch of con artists. And I, for one always enjoy those types of stories. Who doesn't like it when cons try to out do each other? Especially when the characters are so completely developed, their backgrounds exposed, well, as much that can be explained by the author at the time. For yes! You, my lovely readers will be conned as well. Your breathing will increase and you'll find yourself slipping back and forth a few pages to make sure what you just read and that it was truly happening.

Victorian London and a heist scheme......

I was drawn in by the fact that I've loved other books by this author. She has a way of making you feel as though you're a part of Victorian London. Her descriptions of people, places and even mundane things are a true lyrical gift. However, the middle of this book dragged on for me. It was as though we were living through Maud & Sue's dreary days with them. I get that some of that is necessary to create suspense, but after a while, it seemed overkill and it got stale.

The beginning and the end were fabulous, and even parts of the middle sucked me in. There were a lot of twists that got me and some that didn't. No doubt, however, that there is no clear "good" or "bad" characters in this novel, only varying shades of gray- and I loved that!!

Mike Smart is the founder and CEO of The Smart Method. In Mike's long career as an IT consultant, Mike specified, designed and delivered IT solutions for large corporations all over the world. In 2002 Mike decided to specialize in IT training and founded The Smart Method.�

A total life and time saver! Best experience learning Excel I've had yet

This book is a lifesaver. I am a graduate student and I often use Excel for economics and statistics problems. I also use excel to keep track of my eBay sales. I can make what I know of excel work for me but it gets messy and cumbersome and a huge mess that only I can decipher. This book is helping me to build my toolkit, save time and understand the greater potential of Excel. I have gone through Excel workshops but they are so brief that the skills never sink in. Friends with more expert skills have tried to show me different features of Excel but I needed a more hand-on, independent approach. This book is great for that.

I didn't go through the beginner's version of this series. Having some familiarity with excel, I decided to skip the Essential Skills book and move on to the things I need to know. So far this hasn't been a hindrance in my experience in this book. The Expert Skills book assumes you know how to navigate your way through excel, you can understand a basic formula, can create charts and know how to copy, paste and save and open a worksheet. If all that is foreign to you and Excel is completely virgin territory to you, I would probably start off with the Essential Skills book or some other beginner's guide to Excel.

I really love the format of this book. The author has divided the book into different skill sets very well. Also, the text is very clear (readable and legible). The important information is in the middle of the page where he basically outlines the purpose of a particular skills and step-by-step directions. You know what you are doing and how to do it. Additionally, the author leaves the wordy reading in the wide margins. This is a great format because your learning isn't bogged down by text but if you want to read it, it is there for your further understanding. The book is divided into eight sessions:

1. Tables, Ranges and Databases
2. Data Integrity, Subtotals and Validations
3. Advanced Functions
4. Using Names and the Formula Auditing Tools
5. Pivot Tables
6. What if Analysis and Security
7. Working with the internet, other applications and workgroups
8. Forms and Macros

The practice worksheets are downloadable from the author's website which is great. You don't have to worry about needing a CD-ROM. If you purchase a used copy, you don't need to worry about missing the practice material because it is a free, quick download. The author designed great practice worksheets with real-world scenarios so you can apply your skills. He ends each session with a practice lesson that provides you with a chance to test your new skills without the help of directions. Answers for all the lessons are provided either in the book or on the downloadable worksheets.
I can't say enough about this book. I only wished that I had gotten my hands on it early. Worth the price and more.

Need to Learn Excel?? This is the book for you!!

I have some basic and what I thought was pretty good knowledge of Excel. I have used it regularly the past 3 years for my small photography business and started using it even more with a new job. I knew Excel could do a lot and when I came to a point that I needed to do something, I would spend countless hours searching Google and asking my husband trying to figure out how to do something that I had difficulty verbalizing. I really really wish I had bought this book sooner! I bought this one first and after diving into it I quickly purchased the Essential Skills book as well because I realized how valuable Mike Smart's method is and even if it covered things I already knew, there was plenty for me to learn! The lessons are concise, thorough, and offer other valuable and interesting tips as well as shortcuts (which I love!). I switched careers going from elementary teacher to corporate America and Mike does an amazing job teaching Excel! I highly recommend his books to anyone!

The author tries to make us a story from the beginning of time until the appearance of Homo sapiens. The book is divided into two parts. The creation of the universe and the origin of life. Velez subtly adheres to the origin of life based on the arrival of this through an asteroid or meteor. Not creationist but nonetheless knows and states that by the law of possibilities life can not have arisen spontaneously. It is so known mathematical probabilities. It is very comprehensive in its approach. The only problem is that sometimes it is too detailed to explain one another example of the changes produced by evolution. As outreach work to legos is right.

El autor intenta hacernos un relato desde el origen de los tiempos hasta la aparici�n del Homo Sapiens. El libro est� dividido en dos partes. La creaci�n del universo y el origen de la vida. V�lez adhiere muy sutilmente al origen de la vida en base a la llegada de esta a trav�s de un asteroide o un meteorito. No es creacionista pero no obstante sabe y lo expone que por la ley de posibilidades la vida no puede haber surgido de manera espont�nea. Es matem�tico as� que sabe de probabilidades. Es muy completo en sus planteamientos. El �nico problema es que a veces es demasiado detallista explicando uno y otro ejemplo de los cambios producidos por la evoluci�n. Como obra de divulgaci�n para legos est� bien.
