Fun way to do some serious doodling

With all the interest in adult coloring, I thought this book could be fun.

The book begins with an explanation and origin of doodling. The author goes on to describe why we should doodle and then shows some basic doodling shapes. Within minutes I was able to doodle a basic dog face.

There is a discussion of zendoodles and zentagles and how they came about.

About two thirds of the way through the book there is a print link. Following the link is easy and you can then print the pages that the author suggest you use to practice your doodling. You are walked through some simple designs to start. Follow along with the pages and soon you will be drawing your own mandalas and coloring designs. There are also a few coloring pages at the end of the book.

Overall, I found this book fun and easy to use. If you have any interest in creating your own designs, this book is a wonderful place to start.

I love books. This book was a great read and once you get started, it really is hard to put down.The book is often witty. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This debut author has a promising future ahead of her. I know I am reading a good story when I can't wait to get back to it, over and over, reading much to long into the night.

I would highly recommend this book to any friends or family looking to buy it. So I would for sure recommend to anyone in the general public to buy this book.

This has been one of my favorite coloring books by far I love the designs

This has been one of my favorite coloring books by far I love the designs. Each page is complex but easy enough to complete in one sitting. I have nearly completed the book and will buy some of the other books in this series. One thing about this book is the paper is really nice with a smooth texture that takes ink really smoothly with full coverage without requiring going over multiple times. The pages are perforated so they can be removed and used as journal pages or framed. I use markers and unfortunately they bleed through the page so the reverse of the page is dotted up with bleed-through but there isn't much help for that. Also, the designs are all different but have similar design elements from page to page so the lack of variety in the details might not appeal to some, Otherwise I love the book myself and highly recommend it. I used a wide variety of pens - sharpies, color pencils and gel pens.

Extremely focused and accessible. Succinct and true to its title ("essentials"); does not try cover too much and thereby lose potency.

Exercises are well designed: consecutive sentences build on one another and form a narrative (vs. unrelated, unconnected sentences). Within exercises correct sentences are interspersed with incorrect, keeping students on their toes. Many exercise sentences are taken from authentic sources.

Lessons are illustrated clearly with target and non-target forms side by side for easy comparison. Good sentence level and paragraph level variation.

Answer-key in the back = lagniappe.

Huge disappointment

Most tedious book I've had since college (40+ years). It is written like a philosophy doctoral paper - all references to other, heretofore unheard-of architectural philosophers. I wonder if the people who wrote the splendid reviews on the back cover actually read the book. I've tried and tried and tried to read it, but each time I start, I slog through a few pages and put it back. This is one I'd love to get money-back guarantee on, because I'd have returned it by now. The idea behind the book is great. As an architect, I'm aware that all buildings have some life span and that there are various reasons that buildings die - whether there is no need for them, or they may have not been well constructed - and that some buildings find resurrection for other-than-intended use. So, I was anxious to read it. But, alas, there it sits, likely never to be completed.

Unique role-playing game about dark and personal themes in a fascinating complex world, but with an over-complicated system

When Vampire: the Masquerade came out many years ago, it defined a whole new genre. It gave the players an opportunity to role-play as vampires, powerful and immortal creatures of the night, dwelling in modern cities.

At the time of its release, Vampire: the Masquerade was a refreshing change from games of medieval fantasy, like D&D. Even now it remains unique for its focus on characters, morality, personal horror, intrigue, secret societies, and occult mysteries in a modern setting.

Vampire: the Masquerade is a part of a larger setting - the "classic" World of Darkness, which also includes games about other supernaturals like Werewolf: the Apocalypse, Mage:the Ascension, Changeling: the Dreaming, Wraith: the Oblivion, and others.

This is the Revised Edition, also unofficially known as the 3rd Edition, and it is the most well-known and widely used version.

I bought it because I like many things about it:
- I like the difference between vampire clans, both in flavor, and in how they play.
- I like the detailed world with secret societies, laws, factions, internal and external conflicts.
- I like its post-modernistic feel and the "gothic punk" style.
- I like that both the setting and the rules system provide opportunities to explore darker and edgier themes like misuse of power, oppression by you "parent" and by your "government", morality, crime and punishment, intrigue and betrayal, and what would happen to you if you let loose the monster inside you, and do whatever you want to whomever you want.
- I like that it's flexible: you can play it as a slow-paced detective mystery, as a intrigue-filled thriller, as a creeping horror, or you can just play it as a high-octane action adventure with Hollywood-style combat.

What I DON'T like is that the rules system is overburdened with detail. In comparison to modern narrative systems like Apocalypse World (which is more rules-lite), Vampire: the Masquerade is over-complicated. It has too many rules, too many nuances, and the structure of the text sometimes makes it hard to find an answer to a particular question. In a game it is an important downside.
This is why I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5.

Overall, Vampire: the Masquerade is a unique role-playing game, offering an opportunity to touch upon dark and personal themes, and set in a fascinating complex world. Despite it's over-complicated rules system, I very much recommend it.

long awaited, but glad it's here

Well, I'm glad my book finally arrived, but living in Belgium, I did expect quite a long waiting time, so I won't make a fuss over that, it's gotten here, so all is good. The book is great, the game is too, the only downpart from the trip is that the corners are (very) slightly damaged, probably from falling, so my only advice could be to buy it in a store, if there is a store available in your surroundings. other then that, it's a must have if you like to roleplay. You can do whatever you want, as long as your gamemaster has the inspiration and will to make an interesting storyline/quest/etc. You can use real maps, or even googlemaps to have a city to play in, but still, it's the gamemaster that makes or breaks the game, and following the players ability to live their character playing. Play with friends, not through computer, at a table, have some snacks, some drinks (but don't get drunk), and most of all, have fun with this game.

Exercise is fun!

My students really enjoy this book. I tell them that just as our body needs exercise to make it strong, so our fingers need exercise to make them strong! They do these each day at the beginning of practice. They get excited when they have perfected one and can add the next one! After they get them all learned, they practice the whole dozen for a few weeks...not as hard as it sounds, since they are very short! There are 5 sets of a dozen exercises in this book. I highly recommend it for every piano student, no matter the age.

This book is not for the absolute newcomer to piano or music, in general. It is good, but I was looking for something for a four-almost-five year old who had no previous experience. I will need some other method to help him begin.

Learn From Some of the Greatest Copywriters

While some of the ads in "The 100 Greatest Advertisements" may seem outdated - there are many others that one can learn from. Copywriters such as - Claude Hopkins, John Caples, Raymond Rubicam, David Ogilvy, and many others - have shown that most of the great ads were written back then. Some people may believe that today's advertisements are better then they were back then. Not so. Direct response copywriters know that yesterday's copywriters are the one's to learn from. As a former ad agency owner and master copywriter - I keep these ads as part of my "swipe file." So can you.

"A customer" calls this thoughtful collection by Watkins "outdated" and of no value to a modern, savvy, cutting edge, tip of the iceberg, with-it, etc, etc, advertising wannabe, regardless of age, shape or fuel. And, that is the essence of what is wrong with what is being produced as advertising copy writers, producers, et. al. today. All huff, no puff.

Great swipe book for advertisers

This book contains ads written by some of the best marketing minds of all time, such as Hopkins, Ogilvy, Caples, and others. While the ads are old, the copywriting is stellar and timeless. This book also contains the stories behind each ad and how they did commercially, which are a fun read if you're into advertising.

This is a great book for swiping ideas and/or copy, or finding inspiration for new ads. I highly recommend it.
