About the Author
Rachel Zucker is the author of Museum of Accidents (Wave Books, 2009), which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. She is also the author of The Bad Wife Handbook (Wesleyan University, 2007), The Last Clear Narrative (Wesleyan University, 2004), Eating in the Underworld (Wesleyan University, 2003), and Annunciation (The Center for Book Arts, 2002), as well as the co-editor (with Arielle Greenberg) of Starting Today: 100 Poems for Obama’s First 100 Days and Women Poets on Mentorship: Efforts and Affections (both from the University of Iowa Press). She is co-author (also with Arielle Greenberg) of Home/birth: a poemic, a nonfiction book about birth, friendship, and feminism. Her memoir, MOTHERs, will be published by Counterpath Press in 2013. A graduate of Yale and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Zucker teaches at NYU and the 92nd Street Y. She currently lives in NYC with her husband and three sons and was awarded an National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship in 2012.

Like nothing I've read

From a contemporary poetry ignoramus: This book has kind of blown my mind. It uniquely captures a certain time and place of our existence, with pure language; it reads raw and feels honest. I imagine not everyone would identify with its sentiments and perhaps its demographic is narrow, but I'm still flipping back through favorite parts and expect to periodically for a while to come.

I see what you're doing, Rachel Zucker.

She is a mother. She lives in a house. She lives in an apartment. She is acclimated to the dimensions of a big city, but many of the poems in this book only mention the big city as something she knows. Quite possibly, she loves the big city more than anything else, because there are no words for this city. Love need not be measured in words. Or even lack of wording. Just in reference and allusion and expansion within the setting that she is at. Is she in Paris when all the words that she uses to talk about the culture are French? Likely. Is the Big City New York even if she never actually gives the city its name? None other, lover!

These are exercises that she does. Is she Rachel Zucker? I like Rachel Zucker, especially in the despicability she has been in other books that feature someone with all the same lifestyle accommodations as what I know Rachel Zucker has. She is the personhood side of a public figure. She has three children. She looks to the she within her and keeps noticing all the different qualities a she must and will and did and ruefully have as an animal. A human is an animal. She is a human-animal living somewhere where knowing about the city is a way of knowing herself as the animal that prefers cities but still finds relish in other-than-city locales.

And, lest it be overlooked, all the ways that she is with the city, she is with her family, and her husband. Maybe he is like an outcropping of her family. An outcropping can make a continent deformed and more interesting. This book feels like Rachel Zucker continually trying to adjust her clothing so that the outcroppings that make up who she is are hidden or shown in a more complimentary light. But for a reader who is careful, he or she knows. Those are outcropping, Rachel Zucker. I see what you're doing.

About the Author

Ben Favret has won championships at every level in his 25 years of competitive slalom water skiing. He has established himself as one of the world’s most-respected and best-known competitors by winning gold medals in multiple regional, national, Pan American, world, and professional competitions. He is also the current U.S. men’s masters record holder and ranked number 1 in the world by the IWSF 35-45 age division.

Over the years, Favret has coached and trained numerous skiers to victory as the top slalom instructor at Bennett’s Water Ski School and now at his own private site in Orlando, Florida. He was the lead author of Human Kinetics’ The Complete Guide to Water Skiing, which is considered by many to be the bible of water skiing. He has also written over 30 articles in top water ski publications, conducted numerous equipment tests and evaluations, and served on the United States Olympic Committee Athlete Advisory Council and as a board member of USA Water Skiing.

Favret graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in marketing. He resides in Windermere, Florida.

If you no nothing about water sports behind a boat and want a rundown of all the basic things you need, this is a good investment.
If you are already intermediate level then you may not learn a lot, although sometimes reading about the basics could help, especially if you've never taken any lesson or watched good DVDs like Detention 2012 Wakeboard DVD, or The Book Wake Instruct Series (DVD).

Seems to have been written in a hurry

Well, there is quite a lot of useful information in this book. However, it
is not well written or well structured. Some specific problems are as follows.

Chapters 3, 4 and 5 (amounting to nearly 100 pages) that review specific systems
for Liquid-, Solid- and Powder-Base RP systems, respectively, present a survey of
proprietary systems. Unfortunately, very much of the text here is directly cut and
paste from the websites of the companies that produce those systems. The results
of this include very much repetition (since there are many instances of the same
text being provided on the web sites for different models by each manufacturer,
together with some really quite useless descriptive terms such as 'hardness, flatness,
and smooth surface finish', 'ease of installation', ease of finish', 'fast, efficient
and economical', etc. etc.. Unfortunately, without numbers all of these descriptions
amount to nothing more than vague marketing hype and this should not be present in
an academic text written by a professor in mechanical engineering. One would expect
much more objective descriptions, an more overall processing and restructuring of
the information to avoid so much repetition.

On a similar note, there are very many references to Wohlers report on RP. I really
wonder if the cut and paste materials from manufacturers websites, and the Wohlers
derived content, were taken out of the book, how much shorter would it be?

The introductory chapter provides brief summary material for each process that makes
the later, more detailed chapters seem quite repetitive.

The chapter on materials for RP is quite good, apart from a persistent error in
giving densitites in mg/m^3. Hence we are told that the density of copper (for example)
is 8.94 mg/m^3. In fact this is the density in g/cm^3.

Finally, the exercises and problems would, I believe, be difficult for students to
complete if this book were the only resource available.

The overall impression left by these deficiencies is that the book has been
rushed out. It would be nice to see a future edition without the cut and paste material
and with more careful thought, analysis and data given instead of the vague qualitative
terms used by marketing departments.

Excellent introductionary textbook on rapid prototyping

Rafiq Noorani made a perfect job by creating introductory book on rapid prototyping and he used very effcetively his unqie 25 years experience in teaching rapid prototyping. It is well organized, creafully systematized, elegantly written, richly illustrated introductory textbook on rapid prototyping. This book is very easy to read to newcomers and non-specialists. All specific terminology are well defined and carefully explaned. It provides all necessary information for newcomers. Chapters about medical applications and new technologies are especially interested. References material provides practically all necesary information and contact addresses. Carefully formulated questions in the end of every chapter represents an excellent didactic material for teaching and self-control. Author not just loves his subject but somehow he "transduces" his love to rapid prototyping technology to reader. Excellent job. It is one of the best introductoty textbok on rapid prototyping. Highly recommended for students and everybody who is interested in this amazing technology.

Highly recommended. This book deserves special award. Introduction of color illustrations in second edition could make this excellent book even better.

Foraminifera; Biostratigraphic and Environmental Indicators

Great book, comprehensive and to the point. This is a must have book for anyone who is looking at the Eagle Ford Shale of south Texas. Many biostratigraphers are pushing a deep water environmet(outer shelf) for the Eagle Ford Shale based on the presence of calcarious nannofossils and planktonic foraminifera. Because these are planktonic in nature, they can, in reality, exist in waters that are less than 50 meters in depth. The fact they are easily brought in to shallow water by storms, etc., is an indication that their presence does not necessarily reflect deep water conditions. The fact that foraminifer love to munch on algae makes them a perfect companion to the shallow water Botryococcus algal colonies that dominate most of the Lower Eagle Ford floral suites.
